What interest rate can I get with a 750 credit score for a car?
Car loan options with a 750 credit score
Even though your credit score is only one factor in your car loan interest rate (the other two are your income and your debt-to-income ratio), you can expect an average rate between 3% and 6% for a new car and between 5% and 9% for a used car.
Car loan options with a 750 credit score
Even though your credit score is only one factor in your car loan interest rate (the other two are your income and your debt-to-income ratio), you can expect an average rate between 3% and 6% for a new car and between 5% and 9% for a used car.
That's considered prime credit, and lenders don't have to price much risk into their rates. The absolute best auto loan interest rates are reserved for borrowers with scores of 750 or higher.
Lender | Starting APR | Overall Rating |
---|---|---|
1. MyAutoloan | 5.20% for 72-month auto loans | 9.2 |
2. Autopay | 4.67%* | 9.1 |
3. Consumers Credit Union | 6.39% for 72-month loans | 9.1 |
4. PenFed Credit Union | 6.14% for 72-month loans | 9 |
According to MyFICO, as of November 2022, the average APR on a 60-month new auto loan for someone with a FICO Score of 720 or higher is 5.64%. With a score in the 690-719 range, it's 6.83%. And for a borrower with a score in the 660-689 tier, the average APR is 9.19%.
A target credit score of 661 or above should get you a new-car loan with an annual percentage rate of around 7.01% or better, or a used-car loan around 9.73% or lower. Superprime: 781-850. 5.64%.
0% APR cards require good to excellent credit
This means you'll need a FICO credit score of at least 670 or a VantageScore credit score of at least 661. If you have very good or excellent credit, which means a FICO score of at least 740 or a VantageScore of at least 781, your chances of approval are even higher.
Credit score: You might need a credit score of at least 740 to be considered for a 0% APR loan. The minimum credit score depends on the dealership and the car you're interested in purchasing.
The two big credit scoring models used by auto lenders are FICO® Auto Score and Vantage. We're going to take at look at FICO® since it has long been the auto industry standard.
Is it smart to do a 72-month car loan?
Because of the high interest rates and risk of going upside down, most experts agree that a 72-month loan isn't an ideal choice. Experts recommend that borrowers take out a shorter loan. And for an optimal interest rate, a loan term fewer than 60 months is a better way to go. You can learn more about car loans here.
Top Auto Loan Lender | Lowest APR | Term Length |

PenFed Credit Union | 5.24% | 36 to 84 months |

Consumers Credit Union | 6.54% | Up to 84 months |

I... Top Banks like Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank, and State Bank of India are providing the cheapest car loans. Canara Bank interest rates range from 8.80 percent to 11.95 percent. HDFC Bank car loans start from 8.75 percent.
Plus, you're likely to get approved for lower interest rates, which can save you money in the long run. According to the latest credit score statistics, the average FICO score is 716, so a 720 is slightly above average. 67% of Americans have a score in this range or higher based on data from Experian®.
Mortgage rates are expected to decline later this year as the U.S. economy weakens, inflation slows and the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate is expected to fall to the mid- to low-6% range through the end of 2024, potentially dipping into high-5% territory by early 2025.
A perfect credit score of 850 is hard to get, but an excellent credit score is more achievable. If you want to get the best credit cards, mortgages and competitive loan rates — which can save you money over time — excellent credit can help you qualify. “Excellent” is the highest tier of credit scores you can have.
As you can see, a 700 credit score puts you in the “good” or “prime” category for financing, making 700 a good credit score to buy a car. While it's always a good idea to get your credit score in its best possible shape before buying a car, if you're already around the 700 range you will be good to go.
You'll usually need a credit score of at least 640 for the zero-down USDA loan program. VA loans with no money down usually require a minimum credit score of 580 to 620. Low-down-payment mortgages, including conforming loans and FHA loans, also require FICO scores of 580 to 620.
If you want to take out an auto loan with bad credit or no credit, the majority of subprime lenders will require a down payment of 10% or $1,000, whichever is greater. While this is the minimum, you can always put a larger down payment, which helps since you have to pay a lower monthly payment for the rest of the loan.
FICO score range | % of U.S. consumers | % with lower scores |
800-850 | 20.7% | 79.3% |
750-799 | 19% | 60.3% |
700-749 | 17.1% | 43.2% |
650-699 | 13.2% | 30% |
Why 0% APR might not be good for your credit?
Carrying high balances on a 0 percent intro APR card might cause short-term damage to your credit score — but carrying those balances after the introductory APR expires creates a long-term problem. Once your zero-interest period ends, any unpaid balances will begin to accrue interest at the regular interest rate.
Zero percent financing is a loan that doesn't charge interest, either for the entirety of the loan or for a certain period of time. Dealerships use 0% APR to move slow-selling cars and clear out inventory. You usually need a very high credit score to qualify for zero interest loans.
0% APR car finance is generally only available for new cars. Where it is available on used cars, this typically means you'll be paying an artificially high cash price, as dealers often inflate the price to cover what they lose by not charging interest.
Using a credit card to buy a car could make financial sense if you're certain you can avoid interest charges by either: Taking advantage of a 0% APR intro offer. Paying your balance in full by your billing due date.
0% APR means that there are no interest charges on certain transactions during a fixed period of time. When it comes to credit cards, 0% APR is often associated with the introductory rate that may be available when you open a new account.
